RELISHING the thought of a fresh challenge, former Southcity captain-coach Daniel Fitzhenry has agreed to spearhead Temora's Group Nine premiership revival next year.
In the biggest off-season club switch in a decade at least, Fitzhenry yesterday turned his back on the Bulls to sign with the Dragons for 2015.
Fitzhenrhy's shock decision came only a month after he stood aside as Southcity coach to allow Nick Skinner to land the prized position.
Amid a swarm of offers, Fitzhenry yesterday accepted a deal with Temora to play a key role under Dragons captain-coach Michael Henderson.
Speaking to The Daily Advertiser yesterday, Fitzhenry revealed he was "excited" at the prospect of playing alongside ex-NRL counterpart Henderson.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge," Fitzhenry said.
"Obviously I had a few clubs show a little interest, but I sat down with Mick (Henderson) and a few of the committee and agreed to sign (with Temora).
"I'm really looking forward to playing under Hendo."
After four highly successful years with Southcity, Fitzhenry admitted the move to Temora had not been easy.
"I actually sat down with (Southcity president) Rod Porter and had a good chat about it," Fitzhenry said.
"We both agreed it was best to get a fresh start.
"They (Southcity) didn't want me hanging around the place.
"Nick Skinner has got the job now and will want to do things his way."
In snaring Fitzhenry's prized signature, Temora has trumped several Group Nine and Group 20 clubs, including Brothers and Leeton.
Fitzhenry said the emerging talent at Temora had given the Dragons immense appeal.
"In the four years I've been down here Temora has had great under-16 and under-18 teams," he said.
"They've always had really good kids coming through.
"I'm excited about helping out with the young players if that's what Hendo wants."
Now 34, Fitzhenry will give the Dragons a huge boost because of his knowledge and on-field direction.
In four years with the Bulls, Fitzhenry got the team to three grand finals, including a victory in 2011.
Last season, Southcity was swamped by Albury in the grand final in September, with Fitzhenry bitterly disappointed with the result.
