"I wouldn't change it for anything in the world."
- Nicole Dunn
"It's hectic," Nicole Dunn said, the mother of triplets.
"But I wouldn't change it for anything in the world."
New data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has shown the number of births has fallen over the past year, with 2013 figures indicating there were 1500 fewer newborns than the year before.
Interestingly, the number of parents having multiple births was up on the year before.
Last year, there were 1.6 per cent more parents who gave birth to more than one baby than 2012, ABS data shows.
Over the period of a decade, there were 36 per cent more multiple births last year than in 1991.
Ms Dunn, a midwife at Wagga Base Hospital, gave birth to her daughters, Isabella, Amelia and Grace, three years ago having "put in for one and getting three in return".
"It was a huge shock," she said. "When you're in hospital you don't understand how stressful it can get. The babies have to stay in the nursery while the mum goes home.
"The reality is quite different to how you think it is going to be."
Two of Ms Dunn's children were conceived through IVF, with two embryos transferred to boost the chance of pregnancy - one embryo was conceived naturally.
She believes multiple embryo implants could be the reason why more parents are having multiple pregnancies, but there is no definitive research to confirm the cause of the rise.
Ms Dunn said there could be more multiple birth parents in the city and suggested they join Multiple Birth Association Wagga.
Next week she will travel to Sydney to attend a convention with the national organisation designed to create a sense of community for multiple births parents.
"Trying to spread yourself with three babies is quite challenging," Ms Dunn said.
"It's nice to have a group of like-minded parents out there and to spread the word (about the Multiple Birth Association)."
