COLLINGULLIE-Ashmont-Kapooka premiership coach Shane Lenon has parted ways with the Demons just days after guiding the club to a historic Riverina Football League (RFL) premiership.
CAK used it's presentation night last Friday to officially announce that Lenon will no longer be senior coach of the Demons and will be replaced by his brother Brett and star midfielder Chris Gordon in a co-coaching partnership.
Lenon leaves Collingullie on good terms and was awarded life membership of the club last Friday night.
CAK president Scott Lewington paid tribute to Lenon.
"It was a mutual agreement by the club and Shane," Lewington said.
"We spoke about it at the start of the season and we both agreed that after six years (now seven) that he's done a fantastic job.
"He will go down in the history of the club as the best coach we've ever had but we just felt the time was right.
"He's got the ultimate, he proved to the knockers who thought we would only last one year in the RFL.
"He finishes off with a premiership, the perfect way to go out."
Lenon coached CAK for the past seven years.
He led the Demons to three consecutive undefeated Farrer League premierships before leading the charge to the RFL.
The Demons bowed out in the preliminary final in 2011, then made three consecutive grand finals, culminating in this year's premiership.
Lenon, after his two stints at CAK, finishes with four Farrer League premierships, along with his latest RFL flag.
He said the time was right to finish.
"It's not going to get any better than what happened a couple of weeks ago," Lenon said.
"For the club, I think it's the perfect time.
"I've been there for seven years, it's not as if it's one or two.
"I don't want to be shown the door and you can go on too long.
"The time is right and I honestly believe it's the best decision for the club."
Lenon also full endorsed the appointed of his brother Brett and Gordon.
"I reckon it's a great result for the club," he said.
"Brett and Gordo get on great and they're a great fit to take the club forward.
"They're both respected well around the place and it's a huge positive for the club."
There is much speculation about Lenon's future with clubs from the Hume, Farrer and RFL all chasing his services.
Lenon said he will decide his future shortly, but insists no deal is done.
"I'm looking at a couple of options and will make a decision next week," he said.
"I love coaching and am still keen to stay involved."
