INCOMING Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka co-coach Brett Lenon admits it will be a "challenge" to lead the Demons to back-to-back Riverina Football League (RFL) premierships.
Lenon will partner two-time Jim Quinn Medallist Chris Gordon in a co-coaching role next season as CAK prepares to defend its premiership flag.
Premiership coach Shane Lenon came to a mutual decision with the club to separate ways after they achieved the long-term goal of an RFL premiership earlier this month.
Brett Lenon, a six-time premiership player, will step up to a senior coaching role for the first time, the same as Gordon.
Lenon has been heavily involved for the past three years and was a selector for this year's RFL flag.
Gordon has been an assistant coach and has also coached the club's under 17 team in recent years.
Lenon, 36, cannot wait to get started.
"It's very exciting," Brett said.
"It's going to be exciting times, not just for me but for Gordo and the footy club.
"It's going to be good teaming up with Gordo, I'm very good mates with him and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Lenon admitted he had learnt plenty from his brother Shane.
"Coaching is something I've always wanted to do, especially the last few years," he said.
"I've obviously had a long relationship with Sparks, being my brother, but I've had a long relationship with him in footy.
"I've played a lot of footy with him, I was coached by him a lot and am looking forward to taking on the role now."
Since joining the RFL for the 2011 season, CAK has been a serious contender.
It made the preliminary final in its first season, then has been a grand finalist for the past three years, winning it's first senior premiership in the RFL this year.
Lenon realises he takes charge at an interesting time.
"I'm taking it as a challenge, especially after winning a premiership," he said.
"It makes it harder because you're now seen to be at the top of the tree and everyone will be working hard to know you off.
"The way I see it is we're there, so we're going to have to work harder again.
"I'm approaching it as though we finished second to ensure that hunger and willingness to work hard is there."
In a good start for the Demons, they have welcomed back key forward James Morris.
Morris was part of CAK's Farrer League premierships but spent the past two seasons at Culcairn.
In further good news, the likes of Brad Aiken, Matt Beckmans, Geoff Spriggs, Kal Sykes, Brent Arho and the four Kennedy brothers have all re-signed for 2015.
Gordon, who was in Melbourne yesterday, has made a big impression in his three years at the Demons.
He claimed the Jim Quinn Medal in 2012 and 2013 in his first two seasons in the RFL.
CAK president Scott Lewington believes the new coaching partnership will be great for the club.
"Gordo last year indicated he was keen to have a go at coaching," Lewington said.
"Being a playing coach in his first year we thought it would be good to get someone to work with him and Brett works in well."
