Yesterday, Councillor Kendall turned two buckets of icy water on himself at the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre - all in the name of charity.

Although he didn't brave the chilly September morning air outdoors, Cr Kendall took the plunge in the heated surrounds of the Oasis - a venue he used to his advantage after completing the "Ice Bucket Challenge".

Sitting on the edge of a pool, the community leader tipped the first lot of icy water over his head - to the applause of school students watching on - before grabbing a smaller bucket and doing the same, just for good measure.

Cr Kendall then fell backwards into the water.

"So, that's a bucketing," Cr Kendall said moments after he copped the icing.

"Let me tell you, it's not the first time the mayor has had a bucketing either.

Cr Kendall described the refreshing experience as "damn cold", but said his decision to do the challenge was simple - it was easy for the mayor to attract publicity.

"I think it's important, as a community leader, we support these types of events; particularly continuing the public awareness," he told The Daily Advertiser.

"It's an important thing for council, in general, to be seen to be supporting such a great cause."

In following the challenge rules, Cr Kendall nominated Member for Wagga Daryl Maguire, well-known musician Grant Luhrs and and DA journalist Andrew Pearson to take up the challenge.

"Probably because it's one chance to get back, I think Andrew Pearson from the Advertiser would be a terrific bucketing," he told the gathering.

"It might be the only chance I get to get a little bit of revenge."

Cr Kendall was nominated by breakfast radio host Leigh Ryan to be part of the challenge craze that has taken over social media.

The challenge - which raises money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or motor neurone disease (MND) in Australia - is a campaign that began in the US.

According to MND Australia, the challenge reached Australian shores on August 10.

Since then more than 30,000 new supporters have donated more than $1 million to the organisation and state MND associations.

Cr Kendall said he'll make a personal donation of $50 to MND research.
