SECONDS were all that mattered as more than 100 competitors raced around Gregadoo on Sunday.
In the fourth round of the Leaping Log Enduro series at the Gregadoo circuit outside Wagga, some of the divisions were decided my a matter of metres.
Depending on the class, each competitor had four, five or six runs over the hilly terrain, with all runs added together to find the overall winner.
In the pony express class, where two riders compete for each team, Albury's Jordan Putunz and Glen Fairweather finished three seconds after a Wagga father and son combination Rod and Jake Waters.
The Waterses had a four-second lead after the first run, before losing 16 seconds in the next leg.
Fighting back they went back into the lead after gaining 18 seconds in the third leg before the Albury pair retook the ascendancy, riding seven seconds quicker in the fourth run.
Losing another four seconds in the penultimate run, the Waterses earnt back one second in the last leg, but it wasn't enough to bridge the gap.
The win gives Putunz and Glen Fairweather a five-point lead in the overall series.
Matt Waters did have better luck than his family members, winning his junior class.
John Campbell took out the toughest class, expert, defeating Yass' Klee Harper by more than two minutes, with Holbrook's Darcy Jones in third.
Campbell has cut into Harper's lead in the overall series, with 16 points now separating the pair.
Tom Bushell won the 13-15 years class by almost five seconds on the senior course at Gregadoo.
Official Chris Grentell was thrilled with how well the day went.
"It was a very good day and we had some good comments about the round," he said.
"People seemed to enjoy it."
He also said it was great so many youngsters riding in the non-competitive races, with 10 in the 50cc class.
Grentell also thanked the property owners for letting the Wagga Motorcycle Club use their land.
The last round of the Leaping Log series will be at Tumbarumba next month.
