SOUTHCITY remains hot on the heels of Group Nine favourite Albury after brushing aside finals hopeful Tumbarumba in a dominant performance on Sunday.
The Bulls retained second spot on the competition ladder when they ran in eight tries to the Greens' two to win the game 44-12 at Tumbarumba Showground.
The visitors crossed three times before Tumbarumba could get a look in, helped by Greens coach Aaron Sweeney being sin binned just 15 minutes into the game.
Kitione Rasotale scored in the corner for the home team late in the first half and then Joss Cleal converted a penalty after the siren to make the scoreboard interesting at the break.
But the Greens let in a couple of soft tries in the second half as Southcity ran away with the game.
Bulls coach Daniel Fitzhenry denied his team did it easy.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game because every time we come up here it's exactly the same," Fitzhenry said.
"They try hard, they work for 80 minutes, I take my hat off to them.
"I think it's probably our best performance since I've been here.
"In patches we showed good shape.
"When we threw numbers at them they really struggled to number-up and to defend it.
"But we sort of went in and out of it.
"It wasn't a consistent performance by us but overall I was pretty happy."
Southcity second rower Nick Skinner returned a load of work and was one of the Bulls' best, while fellow forwards Tim Hurst and Jordan Shepherd were also solid.
Fitzhenry and Nathan Rose were impressive in the halves.
Southcity lost prop Kieren Schauf in the opening minutes of the game when he copped a bad head knock and failed to return.
"Every time Schaufy comes to Tumba something else happens to him, hurts himself in the warm-up or gets knocked out by the ballboy, something different," Fitzhenry said.
"Everyone else pulled up good."
For Tumbarumba it was centre Rasotale who stood out.
Rasotale was solid in defence and electric in attack, scoring both the Greens' tries and looking dangerous every time he found the ball.
Southcity will travel to Young this week to take on the Cherrypickers while Tumbarumba faces a tough assignment at Greenfield Park in Albury.
