COOTAMUNDRA celebrated its centenary in style on Saturday with a hard-fought win over Southcity at Fisher Park.
The Bulldogs had plenty to play for with an army of former players and loyal supporters watching on from the sideline.
The team didn't disappoint, starting the game with a bang to shoot out to a 22-0 lead early in the first half, with all four tries coming from the left wing.
Southcity managed to sneak over the line just before half time to have the scoreboard at 22-6 at the break.
Cootamundra started the second half just like the first, as Nathan McGowan kicked a 40-20 and big centre Sione Tongia burst through the defence off a quick tap.
That was to be the end of the Bulldogs' scoring, however, as the Bulls hit their straps and began to fight back.
Southcity scored twice to chip away at the margin but couldn't do quite enough, eventually losing 28-18 to the home team.
"It was a good game," Cootamundra co-coach Mark Elia said.
"It was almost an exact replica of this game last year actually.
"We started really well, we went bang bang bang and scored three quick tries, then Southcity fought back pretty well.
"Once they got going it was like watching the Southcity of old.
"They were actually running over us but a couple of things went our way and luckily we held on."
While Elia labelled it an "all-round team performance", it was Cootamundra winger Sirla Pera who caught the eye of spectators from the right side of the field.

Pera had countless hit-ups and ran the ball strongly.
Tongia, co-coach Grant Boyd and McGowan were also good for the winners, while Southcity coach Daniel Fitzhenry was impressive for the visitors.
Elia said the players were pumped up with some of the club's legends looking on.
"There was a lot of emotion with the 100-year celebrations so it was nice to get a win," Elia said.
"Everyone's had a great weekend."
