On Wednesday, police were patrolling Coolah Street at about 5am when they stopped the man – who police say submitted to a search - before officers allegedly found the potentially deadly items.
The man was taken to Griffith police station by the officers while the explosives were secured and rendered safe by officers from the Police Rescue and Bomb Squad.
Subsequently, police conducted a search warrant at the man’s house where they allegedly located items used to manufacture the homemade explosive.
The man was charged with possession of an explosive in a public space, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and possess a cutting weapon.
He was refused bail.
