Reports emerged over the weekend the federal government was considering cuts to the ABC's budget, despite a pledge from Prime Minister Tony Abbott that there would be "no cuts to the ABC or SBS" the night before last year's federal election.
Mr McCormack said he was a supporter of the ABC's regional broadcasting and that it was "imperative" its services were maintained.
"The ABC around this area and in regional areas does a wonderful job, particularly in times of emergency and particularly those times in January, where fires and floods happen," he said.
"What they also do is provide a voice for regional people to have their say."
Mr McCormack's comments follow those of fellow Nationals MPs Bruce Scott and Mark Coulton, who came out in support of regional ABC services on Sunday, expressing concerns at reports that funding to the public broadcaster was set to be cut in the upcoming federal budget.
However, Mr McCormack indicated he felt that cuts to the ABC - provided they did not affect its regional broadcasting services - may be necessary, with the government unable to "keep spending money like it is a bottomless pit".
"There have to be cuts across the board and savings measures adopted and some of those are going to be pretty tough," he said.
"I would sooner see cuts to some programming schedules of the ABC than I would to regional nursing services."
But he stopped short of saying the ABC's funding should be impacted come next month's budget.
"I'm just saying it comes into the mix of things that need to be looked at," Mr McCormack said.
