Rhonda Schipp, wife of former member for Wagga Joe Schipp, believes the move hasn't been thought through properly by council officers, with parking in particular an issue at the new site.
"Parking is going to be very difficult," she said.
"A lot of people who go to the information centre have caravans and motor homes."
The Visitor Information Centre will be moved from its Tarcutta Street site to the Wagga Art Gallery from Friday, in a move being trialled over the next six months by Wagga City Council.
When the decision was announced last Friday, council director of economic development Peter Adams said the move had been designed to bring greater exposure to the art gallery and to make greater use of the city's cultural facilities.
While Mrs Schipp believes the facilities inside the civic centre precinct - including the art gallery and the National Art Glass Gallery - need to be given more prominence, moving the Visitor Information Centre is not the right move to bring more people through its doors.
"Can you imagine coming into town - most people just dive in and want some information," she said.
"They've got to go into the council chambers and then they've got to go down those stairs.
"I don't think it's very convenient for people."
