CRASH investigators spent most of the day piecing together the cause of an accident which claimed the life of a Gundagai woman on Gocup Road near Tumut on Saturday.
The 81-year-old was driving north in her Toyota Camry when it left the road around five kilometres from the town at about 7.30am.
Her car went up an embankment before crashing into a tree and rolling.
The woman died at the scene.
The crash forced the closure of the road northbound at the location, with a contra-flow traffic system put in place until about 5pm.
Police from the Cootamundra local area command will prepare a report for the coroner.
SATURDAY
POLICE have confirmed a fatality on the Gocup Road - 5km north of Tumut - on Saturday morning.
At 7.30am, police units responded to a single vehicle accident on Gocup Road and arrived to find the car rolled over onto its roof.
An elderly female is believed to have died.
Crime scene investigators are currently at the scene.
One lane remains blocked on Gocup Road and a contraflow traffic system is in place.
