The Newell Highway is expected to remain closed between West Wyalong and Forbes for some time, as investigations are carried out into a horror head-on between a B-double and a four-wheel-drive earlier this afternoon.
The accident occurred about 1.30pm, around 35km north of West Wyalong.

A MAN is fighting for his life after suffering major internal injuries in a head-on crash between a car and truck north of West Wyalong.
The man is understood to be the driver of the a northbound four-wheel-drive which which collided with a B-double on the Newell Highway about 35km north of the town.
A female passenger suffered chest injuries and in a serious condition.

It is understood both have been flown to Canberra Hospital.
Investigations are underway into the cause of the crash.

A spokeswoman for Snowy Hydro SouthCare says crews have been at the scene for about 40 minutes.
No further information is available at this stage.

TWO people have been taken by road ambulance to West Wyalong - one in a critical condition suffering multiple life-threatening injuries.
The second person is in a serious condition with chest injuries.
The ages of the pair are unknown.
The Newell Highway has now been closed in both directions, with diversions in place for southbound traffic via the Lachlan Valley Way at Forbes then onto Condobolin Road at Condobolin to rejoin the Newell at West Wyalong.
The diversion for northbound traffic is the same, but in reverse.
According to the NSW Live Traffic, the detour adds about an extra one-and-a-half hours to the normal travel time.

EMERGENCY crews are working on two people who have suffered serious injuries in a collision between a car and truck on the Newell Highway north of West Wyalong.
At this stage, the highway is closed in a southbound direction, but may close to allow the Snowy Hydro SouthCare rescue helicopter - which has been tasked to the accident - to land.
The extent of injuries is unclear, but Fire and Rescue NSW tweeted a short time ago that one person had been rescued, with crews working on a second.
Crews responded the accident about 1.30pm.
NSW LiveTraffic has updated the location of the crash to 35km north of West Wyalong, with diversions in place.

THE Snowy Hydro SouthCare rescue helicopter has been called to a serious two-vehicle accident on the Newell Highway near West Wyalong.
According to a spokesman for Ambulance media, paramedics were called to the crash about 1.30pm following reports two vehicles had collided about 28km north of the town.
Initial reports suggest a car and truck are involved.
The spokesman said crews were currently on the scene, assessing two patients who are both understood to have suffered serious injuries.
The highway has been closed southbound, with motorists being diverted onto the Lachlan Valley Way at Forbes then onto Condobolin Road at Condobolin to rejoin the Newell at West Wyalong.
According to the NSW Live Traffic, the detour adds about an extra one-and-a-half hours to the normal travel time.
