COLLINGULLIE-Ashmont-Kapooka has bolstered its defence with the signing of Narrandera premiership player Jed Hillman.
Not long after the deflection of centre-half-back Will Haines to Hume League club Culcairn, CAK hopes it has found a suitable replacement in Hillman.
The talented young defender joined Narrandera in 2012 where he played in its premiership team and then returned home to Barellan mid-season this year.
Hillman, 19, finished the season playing eight games for his home club Barellan before deciding on a switch to the Demons next season.
CAK coach Shane Lenon expects Hillman to slot in nicely to the team's defence.
"He's a good replacement for Willy Haines, that's what I'm hoping," Lenon said yesterday.
"He's a good size and played in a premiership at Narrandera.
"He's a young bloke that's still got his best footy ahead of him. He's a good pick-up and we're rapt to have him on board."
Hillman is the third addition to the Demons' list over the off-season, joining Nathan Kickett and Jimmy Kennedy, in what is some consolation to the losses of Marc Geppert, Ben Absolum, Will Haines and Curtis Allen.
CAK held a training session and Christmas party on Saturday where they had about "35 to 40" players on the track.
Craig Ambler will oversee a lot of the pre-season training as the club's fitness coach, while John Lawton has taken the role of ruck coach.
Lenon said there were plenty of positive signs at the training session.
"The young blokes were pretty impressive," Lenon said.
"I'm excited about the young blokes, I've got to be honest.
"Two or three of them made our side last year and played some good footy towards the end of the year.
"Another five or six got a taste and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they go."
