After weeks of speculation surrounding his move from Crossroads Oval, the switch was this week formally announced by Culcairn coach Chad Hamblin.
The pair are former team mates at the Demons, and Haines will join good mate James Morris, who moved from CAK to Culcairn last year and has re-signed with the Lions.
Haines spent six years at CAK and won three Farrer League premierships with the club before its move to the Riverina Football League.
The former Deniliquin junior has been a rock at centre-half-back for CAK in that time.
It is another cruel blow to the Demons, who have already lost gun full-forward Marc Geppert, Ben Absolum and Curtis Allen this off-season.
Haines will be joined at Culcairn by his younger brother Tim, who is a promising young key defender from Deniliquin Rams.
CAK had hoped to retain Haines, pick up his brother and have Morris return.
Culcairn has confirmed the signing of Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong tall utility David Karlberg.
GGGM knew about Karlberg's link with Culcairn for some time and had only been waiting for official word.
Karlberg played in multiple premierships at GGGM, where he has served the majority of time as a back-up ruckman to Jacob Olsson.
Karlberg played 13 games in the top grade for GGGM this year, including the Lions three finals. He is another former team mate of Hamblin.
Culcairn has also signed Lavington premiership player Adam Eady, along with Nic Finlayson, Luke Taylor, Hayden Coulson, Jackson McGrath and Zac Storer.
