JUNEE teenager and Canberra Raiders talent Trent Schubach has been handpicked by NSW coach Laurie Daley as a future star of the State of Origin arena.
The fellow Junee export was yesterday selected as one of 37 under 20s NRL players for an Origin Pathway Camp in Narabeen next weekend.
Running over two days, the camp will reinforce Origin culture and history, as well as individual sessions with Blues coaching staff including Daley.
Schubach, who helped Raiders to the Holden Cup minor premiership and a preliminary final clash with Penrith in September, said he was shocked but pleased to be included in the squad.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season with Raiders, and is hoping to go one better to the under 20s grand final next season.
"This year was a great experience for me, especially being one of the younger boys in the side," he said yesterday.
"It's a great club and a good bunch of blokes, so it was a great experience.
"There's parts of my game I'd love to improve on next year, but it looks like we'll have another good team again so I'm looking forward to an exciting year."
The under 20s Blues camps were first initiated by Ricky Stuart, and Daley is keen to continue the newly formed tradition.
"Aaron Woods and Boyd Cordner made their State of Origin debuts this year and they were members of these squads in previous years," he said.
"I am very excited about this year's group a player like Dylan Walker, who has progressed through Holden Cup, VB NSW Cup and made his NRL debut in a star-studded South Sydney side in just one year, is someone Blues fans should be keeping an eye on."
The squad will arrive at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence, Narrabeen on Friday.
