An 18-year-old man from Young is expected to be charged with murder after being arrested by Queensland police over an unrelated incident.
The man was interviewed by police in Brisbane earlier this week and Cootamundra police will now move to extradite him to NSW.
It comes more than two months after Mr Power, 33, was was found unconscious on Wombat Street.
Cootamundra Local Area Command crime manager, Detective Inspector Paul Huxtable, said the man was questioned over Mr Power's death by detectives attached to Strike Force Bumble while in custody.
"As a result, police are about to commence proceedings to have the person extradited," Inspector Huxtable told The Daily Advertiser yesterday.
"Once that's done, he will be charged with the murder."
An examination of electronic devices and social media led detectives to Brisbane and it is understood the 18-year-old is the only person being questioned at this stage.
Following the attack, in the early hours of August 29, Mr Power was assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to Young District Hospital where he underwent treatment for severe head injuries.
Beaten beyond recognition, he died a short time later.
Since then, police have combed Burrangong Creek for a potential weapon and recently released security camera footage of his final moments.
Throughout the ordeal his family maintained their fight for justice, issuing desperate pleas for information - in particular for Mr Power's young daughter, Jaela.
Mr Power's sister Phia told the Advertiser yesterday the family was relieved, but said there was "always going to be that sorrow that comes with it".
She said the latest development had seen the family relive much of the emotion which surfaced immediately after his death.
"We're just going to take it step-by-step, all we can do is hope for a positive outcome and go from there," Ms Power said.
"It's very early days.
"Hopefully we'll get the answers we've needed to close that chapter of Corey's life."
Inspector Huxtable wouldn't release any information as to what relationship the 18-year-old had with Mr Power.
"The strike force is still operating, we're still interviewing people," he said.
The man is also facing other charges which relate to three separate armed robbery incidents in the south Brisbane district earlier this week.
Three men, including the 18-year-old and a 22-year-old from Cootamundra, were each charged with one count of armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery and faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
