ONE of the Farrer League’s brightest young talents says he’s looking forward to testing himself in NSW’s second-tier AFL competition.
Nick Hull will leave his home club East Wagga-Kooringal and move to Canberra, having signed with Queanbeyan to play in the NEAFL next year.
The 20-year-old giant had informed the Hawks he planned to move to the nation’s capital and new coach Gavin McMahon immediately put him in contact with the Tigers.
He was quick to sign on the dotted line and will pack his bags and relocate in the next couple of weeks.
The young tall says he was thrilled to get the call from Queanbeyan.
“I was really happy, it’s a good opportunity to play some good quality footy,” Hull said.
“I’ve only ever played in the Farrer League so to play in the NEAFL, against teams like Swans and GWS reserve grade, that will be awesome.”
Queanbeyan has set about finding Hull a job in Canberra and he hopes to begin pre-season with his new club next month.
He has set himself a goal of breaking into the Tigers’ first grade team next season.
“That’s the plan, get stuck in to pre-season and hopefully crack the ones,” Hull said.
“I think they are light-on for big men so they have told me I’ll probably play as a ruck-forward.”
Queanbeyan assistant coach Adrian Pavese said the club was quick to pounce on the young ruckman when McMahon suggested they get in contact.
He said the Tigers staff were keen to work with Hull.
“Nick is young and raw, he’s going to be a long-term project for us,” Pavese said.
“It’s going to be a development year for him but he will certainly fill a hole for us in the ruck.
“The plan is to get him here before Christmas, get him to training and give him a chance to meet the boys.”
Hull has endured a rough couple of years with injury but enjoyed a big 2013 campaign with the Hawks.
He was picked to represent the Farrer League in a one-off fixture in June and started the game off well before suffering a broken arm.
EWK, meantime, is hoping to announce some more signings before the end of this month.
The Hawks have already added Jay Peace and Daniel Davey to their list under the keen guidance of McMahon.
