Chris Cerato has re-signed for his second year as captain-coach of the Bulldogs and the club has already landed a handful of signings for next season.
Queanbeyan key position player Chase Grintell has already signed with Turvey Park for next season after playing in the AFL Canberra division one for the past two years.
The club is in negotiations with an ex-AFL player and has already claimed another “four or five” signings it will announce after players have finished their commitments with current teams.
Turvey Park president Vin Carroll was pleased to announce the re-signing of Cerato.
“Billy did a good job and we need some stability in the position,” Carroll said yesterday.
“We’ve got a lot of young kids coming through so it’s good to have him working with them again.”
Carroll was pleased with the improvement the young Bulldogs showed this season.
They went from a winless season in 2012, to two wins this year, which included victories over reigning premier Narrandera and arch rival Wagga Tigers.
“I reckon the kids improved 100 per cent to last year,” Carroll said.
“They were easily knocked off the ball last year and once they got their heads down they got pounced upon.
“This year they learnt to fight back that little bit.” Grintell is the Bulldogs’ first signing and is a tall key position prospect that can play in the ruck, centre-half-back or centre-half-forward.
Carroll said he is the first of many.
“This year we were just a couple of players short of being really competitive so we’ve gone out and already signed up five or six so far,” Carroll said.
“Things are looking a lot more positive.”
The only losses to date is Daniel Tooze to retirement, while Hayden Dore and Tom Kenny plan to move away for university commitments.
In further good news for the club, it has signed up Thomas Bros to join The Rules Club as major sponsors.
Carroll said he looked forward to a long and successful association with Thomas Bros.
