It was an even-money market before the bounce and both teams showed why it had been so hard to pick a favourite.
The Magpies threw an interesting spanner in the works straight up when they started the league's leading goal kicker Luke Webb at halfback.
It was an unexpected tactic, but it was TRYC who drew first blood for the game when Todd Hannam crumbed and snapped a goal just 45 seconds in.
From there, Temora began to dominate the forward entries and managed to kick consecutive goals, but bombed a number of opportunities at goal.
Luke Gerhard was paid a free kick on the goal line and somehow missed the big sticks.
The Kangaroos took a five-point lead into the first break and it wasn't long until TRYC made them pay for their inaccuracies.
The Magpies booted the opening three goals of the second quarter to jump out to a 12-point lead, but Temora hit back with three goals in three minutes to creep back in front by half time.
The game took an ugly turn on the half time siren when an all-in brawl erupted and spectators had to be asked over a loudpseaker to stay away from the melee.
As a result, umpires yellow carded Luke Webb (TRYC), Tim McAuley and Sam Fisher (Temora) and McAuley was reported for striking Webb.
The Kangaroos had the breeze but were a man down at the start of the third term, and the Magpies put Dale Hugo back to play loose in defence.
Justin Driscoll and Mitch Ward goaled for the Magpies but the Roos managed to kick three for the period and maintain the lead.
Temora came out hard in the final quarter and kicked two quick goals to have the crowd on its feet and seemingly seal the game.
But TRYC had other plans, kicking three straight goals, including a pearler from Mitch Ward from 50m out on an acute angle.
The Magpies needed two goals in the dying minutes but a Jake Barrett goal sealed the Temora win, 12.14 (86) to 11.4 (70).
