Kissick will make his long-awaited move to the metropolitan scene within the next “two or three weeks” after deciding with boss Peter Clancy that the time was right to take the opportunity.
Kissick will head to the Waller stable on a three-month loan just in time for the Spring carnival.
The 22-year-old has taken all before him over the past three years under Clancy’s care at Leeton and quickly established himself as one of the country’s finest apprentices.
Kissick has received offers from some of Melbourne and Sydney’s biggest stables over the past 12 months but decided the time was right to make the move.
“It’s too good an opportunity to give up,” Kissick said yesterday.
“I spoke to Pete about it and he said to go ahead and give it a shot for three months.
“It’s great to get an opportunity for Mr Waller, one of the best stables in Australia.”
Kissick said there was a number of reasons behind his decision to accept the Waller offer when he has passed up similar opportunities in the past.
“I think I’m a bit more mature now,” he said.
“It’s the start of the season, coming up to spring.
“There isn’t many apprentices there at the moment so I should get some opportunities.
“It’s just a good time to go, I’ve only got eight months left on my apprenticeship so I may as well go and give it a shot.”
Waller only recently broke the record for the most metropolitan wins by a Sydney trainer in a season.
Kissick hopes to be available to return to the Southern District to ride at Wagga meetings, plus other tracks such as Canberra.
He is still to work out the exact dates of the move and will speak to Clancy to work out the right time, but expects it to be in the next three weeks.
Kissick is currently out suspended and will resume riding on August 29.
