The Giants completed their preparations for tonight’s NAB Cup clash with an opening training session in front of their fans at Robertson Oval.
It was the first time the AFL club had laid its eyes on the redeveloped ground and McDonald gave it the all clear afterwards.
“It was good to get on there,” McDonald said.
“It was nice and lush, it seems like it’s in perfect condition.
“It should be fine. The boys are keen and raring to go.”
The Giants made one late change to their selected squad yesterday with Adam Kennedy a withdrawal due to illness.
Sam Darley comes into the team.
McDonald said the Giants have prepared well and expects a strong showing.
“Obviously we put in a reasonable performance last weekend and we want to keep putting competitive footy together and bring it into the season.
“It’s all about that connection of playing together, that’s a big part of the development.
“Every game we’ll be trying to win, but we’re still working on things and still developing players.
“It’s important we get the development of players right and get game time into them.”
McDonald acknowledged the Lions will be tough to beat tonight.
“They’ve brought a pretty strong squad,” McDonald said.
“I think they’re pretty keen to do well in the NAB Cup and they were in great form last week.
“It should be a good game.”
The Giants finalised their preparation with a 30-minute training session on Robertson Oval.
GWS coach Kevin Sheedy mingled with fans as well as spending time with officials from Wagga City Council and AFL NSW-ACT.
