There were plenty of kids on Robertson Oval having a kick yesterday at the official opening, but one day they might be running out onto the oval to represent a Wagga or Riverina team, or even a visiting AFL side.
It’s a possibility not lost on Wagga mayor Rod Kendall.
“You can see the enthusiasm in the kids’ faces,” he said.
“They all want to be out there one day.”
Wagga’s junior AFL clubs were out in force at the gala event, taking registrations.
Turvey Park junior football club president Grant Carroll said he’d noticed more kids registering with the club as a result of the Robertson Oval opening event and the visit of GWS.
“We’ve had a few more than normal,” he said.
“(This event) gives the opportunity for anyone not involved in a club to get involved. It’s a great idea.”
