SOUTH Wagga captain is not fussed by the “Mick Delaney factor” ahead of the Blues’ showdown with a much-improved St Michaels team at Wagga Cricket Ground tomorrow.
The Saints all but cemented a place in finals with a comprehensive victory over Lake Albert last weekend and will test out their premiership credentials against the ladder leaders this weekend.
St Michaels will be without in-form batsmen Joe and Tom Byrnes but will welcome in South Australian Sheffield Shield player Mick Delaney for his first game of the year.
Delaney played with the Saints several years ago and pledged his alliance for the Saints this season where he indicated he will play when possible as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
A fast bowler, Delaney will be back in Wagga this weekend and has agreed to play a one-off game for the Saints.
Delaney said he will wait and see how he pulls up from last night’s training session before he makes a decision on how involved he becomes in the match.
“I might be able to bowl mediums,” Delaney said.
“Depends on how the shoulder is feeling after training.”
Robinson is trying to prepare South Wagga for a tilt at the premiership and is not concerned about movements at rival clubs.
“I don’t really think too much about it,” Robinson said.
“I’m not looking into it too much. I’m not too fussed.”
Robinson said South Wagga’s focus would be to get some of its top order batsman in form ahead of finals.
“It’s not going to be batter friendly conditions but we’ll try to get blokes as much time in the middle as possible,” Robinson said.
“It’s the only part of the game where we’re letting ourselves down at the moment so hopefully one or two of the top order can get some time in the middle and get a partnership going.
“Our bowling and fielding has stood up throughout the year we just need the likes of myself, Matty Bee and Chris Stacey to make some runs.”
Robinson said the weather conditions this week have not been ideal but believes cricket will get under way at some stage over the weekend.
“It’s a Saturday-Sunday game so we’ll get on at some point,” Robinson said.
“It’s supposed to clear up (today) but I’m not a weather man.
“It would be nice to get a win a week out from finals.”
