GREATER Western Sydney (GWS) young gun Anthony Miles has tipped the Giants will be more than competitive when they take on Brisbane Lions in Wagga on Saturday week.
GWS hit the field for the first time last weekend and Miles was one of the standouts with a three-goal haul in the Giants' intra-club hit out in Sydney.
A product of Hume League club Howlong, Miles has his sights set on a big season for the Giants after breaking through for seven AFL games in the club's debut season.
Miles, like all of the Riverina boys at GWS, cannot wait for the trip to Wagga next week and this week revealed the Giants are treating their NAB Cup campaign very seriously.
"We're in a different situation to most clubs where we're in a pretty tough market in Western Sydney," Miles said.
"Any good performances we can put out is worth a great deal.
"We're always going to be out there to be as competitive as possible and try to win every game.
"It's most important for our supporter base."
Miles, 20, experienced a couple of hiccups during the pre-season, a rolled ankle and a groin strain, that forced him to miss a couple of weeks.
He certainly proved he is on track for a big start to the season with Giants officials rapt with his performance in the intra-club game last weekend.
Miles said he was keen to break through for more games at the Giants this season.
"I haven't missed much of the pre-season, which is good," Miles said.
"I played seven games last year so I would like to obviously build on that this year.
"It's pretty tough for spots, particularly in the midfield, and we've added a couple more good midfielders from the draft.
"I'll be happy if I can get a game and then if I can do my part I'll be happy."
Miles will have plenty of family and friends travel across from the Howlong area and expects the game to draw plenty from the Albury region.
With an aunty, uncle and cousins in Wagga too, Miles cannot wait for the Robertson Oval clash.
"It was a massive thing going to Albury for the last couple of years and even though Wagga will be a bit different it should be good," Miles said.
"To have seven players from the area is a pretty unique situation so to come home and play a game will be really good."
