EAST Wagga-Kooringal has parted ways with one of its best players at the same time it begins planning its 2013 Farrer League assault.
Midfield-forward Daniel Smallwood is the latest in a lengthy list of footballers to depart Gumly Oval during this off-season.
Smallwood was arguably the Hawks' best player in 2012, collecting 12 league best and fairest votes and kicking 29 goals, but will seek a new football home after just one season in the brown and gold.
He joins the likes of Mark Adams (North Wagga), Mark and Chris Parr (Tumbarumba), Dale Cameron (Turvey Park) and Chris Pedler (Tumbarumba) to leave the club.
Lanky ruckman Jake Robinson only played a couple of games last year but has signed with Marrar for the coming season.
The Hawks have tried to counter their losses by adding midfielders Craig Pullen and Michael O'Dea from Wagga Tigers, as well as former South Croydon onballer Matt Wiley.
EWK began training last week and coach Chris Jackson is confident he has the cattle he needs to be successful this season.
"We had 30 guys at training last week which was great," Jackson said.
"All the guys are keen.
"Brenton Roberts has taken up the assistant coaching position and Craig Pullen has been doing a lot of work with the players.
"It's all looking good."
Class midfielder Roberts will take over as assistant coach with the departure of Smallwood while Pullen is acting as the club's fitness coach.
Pullen, O'Dea and Wiley have all linked with EWK as a result of the club's new deal with Wagga's RAAF base and the players will train there during pre-season.
Luke Adams has informed the club his availability will be limited due to work and his wedding in October but Jackson hopes to snag him for at least a handful of games.
Jackson is also excited about the return of young talls Josh Hull and Sam Morris, who both missed games last year due to injury.
