The Aggies have been on the hunt for a suitable replacement since Andrew Corcoran announced he was leaving the post at the end of the season.
Having led the SIRU heavyweight to three consecutive grand final appearances, Corcoran's shoes appeared almost too big to fill until yesterday.
Highly respected Aggies assistant coach Stuart Hodgson yesterday confirmed the club had all but secured a big name to join the green-and-gold ranks next season.
"We'd like to make it formal first before we say anything," he said.
"He's met with some players and he's had contact with a lot of the people at the club.
"Hopefully we can announce something in the not too distant future."
The Daily Advertiser understands the new face is a former international coach with the highest credentials, which would make him the most experienced name in SIRU.
The new addition is one of the most sought after names in coaching, believed to be chased by several clubs in Sydney as well as another SIRU contender.
Although disappointed not to be available to coach next season, Corcoran believes Aggies will be in excellent hands should all go as planned.
"Obviously I'm disappointed not to be there but he'll be unreal for the club," he said.
"He just has to meet with the players and let them know what he needs for next year.
"It's pretty exciting."
According to Corcoran, Aggies are hoping to lock the appointment down at a meeting on Thursday.
