JUNEE coach Mark Elia yesterday vented his frustration at the refusal of several Diesels grand final players to commit to playing for the club again this year.Four months after Junee lost to Tumut in the Group Nine decider, Elia said some prominent players had shown a surprising reluctance to stay on for another shot at the Group Nine title."I've got to say it's disappointing," Elia said from New Zealand yesterday. "I can't understand how they (the players) can be satisfied to just make a grand final."The sharp comments came as Junee struggles to keep its grand final team together for another tilt at the Group Nine premiership.Although the Diesels have only officially lost Weissel Medal-winning forward Sam Quinn to Kangaroos, Elia said "rumours" indicated other senior Junee forwards may not play in 2011."I'd like them to reconsider," Elia said."They can build on their grand final experience."With Quinn signed with Roos, a question mark hangs over fellow forwards Nathan Smith, Jason Smith, Adam Perry and Willie Purcell. The Smith brothers are being pursued by at least one Group Nine club, while Purcell is considering a switch to rugby union.Perry, however, has "retired", but Elia has not given up the ghost on the former NRL hero playing on this year."I'd love to have him (Perry) have a few more games," Elia said.Currently visiting his family in New Zealand, Elia said blockbusting centre Sione Tongia would play with the Diesels unless he secured a contract with NRL franchise Gold Coast."Sione is trialling with the Gold Coast on the strength of playing for Tonga in the Four Nations," Elia said.On a positive front, Junee is in the running to recruit powerful prop David Letele and exciting inside back Matt Ward, who played for the Canberra Raiders in 2010. Elia will return to Junee next week and set a platform for the Diesels' pre-season training.
