Students embraced the challenging conditions and smashed a number of track and field records, with teacher Stephen Sargeant praising the efforts of the school.“We were able to achieve some fantastic results considering the heat,” Sargeant said.“To smash 10 records in these kinds of conditions was a great effort from everyone who participated.“Last week, when we saw record temperatures, we thought participation numbers would be well down.“But looking at participation rates, we’re up on last year, which is great news.”Standout performers included brilliant runner Lu-Wei Spinks, who broke the 14 years 200m record.Shane Skates (13 years discus), Ryan Taylor (16 years triple jump), Cameron Mavor (15 years 800m), Beng Bai (13 years 400m), Kyle Farrugia (14 years discus), Jye Smith (12 years 400m), Sharne Robinson (12 years shot-put) and Quinn Stow (15 years triple jump) also broke records. In dramatic circumstances, Shenade Andrews set a new record for the 14 years girls shotput before the mark was broken the very next attempt by Sarah Andrews. Sargeant said the overall standard of the students’ performances was impressive. “That’s the most records we’ve had broken at the one carnival,” he said.“It’s certainly is one of the best carnivals we’ve had in quite a few years, while keeping in mind the fun aspect of what we were doing today.”Age Chmapions12 yearsAdam White (boys)Helena Dorzac (girls)13 yearsRhiannon Dailey (girls)14 yearsChris McEwan (boys)Sonya Klimpsch (girls)15 yearsQuinn Stow (boys)Madison Absolum (girls)16 yearsRyan Taylor (boys)Eliza Nasedy, Jess McEwan (girls)Senior Braedon O’Grady (boys)Mia Parsons (girls) - To see more photos go to the Photogallery on the Daily Advertiser website.
