CANBERRA trainers continued their dominance of the Snake Gully Cup carnival on Saturday, led by Matthew Dale.Dale trained three winners over the two days and he again combined with former Wagga apprentice Jason Collins to win the Frank Cripps Memorial Class Two Handicap (1000m) with Murphy’s Prospect. The four-year-old showed great acceleration to lead the field and Collins entered the home straight with a lap full of horse, as the rest of the field scrubbed along.Murphy’s Prospect ($2.10) coasted to the line to win by 3½ lengths, in front of local pair You’re On ($22.90) and Jam Jar ($28.50).The win was a popular one as a large group of local owners and Dale revealed the victory was the end result of a long-range plan.“We set him for this carnival a long way out,” Dale said.“The owners are from the Tumut Gundagai area so we wanted to win one over the Snake Gully Cup carnival with him.“After he won at Queanbeyan we penciled this race in as the perfect race.”It was win number two at start five for Murphy’s Prospect, who was beaten as a short-priced favourite last start at Goulburn.Dale said the plan with Murphy’s Prospect was relatively simple.“We’ll see how he pulls up but we’ll just look for another race at a tight-turning circuit,” Dale added.“We’ll see how he comes through but he loves these tight-turning courses.”Dale was happy to finish an enjoyable Snake Gully carnival with a win.“I’ve had three out of four runners win and if I could do that every year I’d be laughing,” Dale said.“The boys have really enjoyed the couple of days.“I love coming to country carnivals like these.”Dale has the unique record of two attempts at the Snake Gully Cup for two wins, with Gunfire Messiah and Happy Finish.Dale hopes to be back next year with another potential winner in the feature race.“I’ve been lucky to have two runners in the Snake Gully Cup and they’ve both won,” Dale said.“Hopefully I’ll be back next year with one in the race.”
