THE ROCK-YERONG CREEK captain-coach David Pieper declared the club was "delighted" with the outcome of yesterday's historic blueprint for the future of Australian football in the Riverina. The AFL yesterday handed down its blueprint for the future and there have been radical changes made to the previous competitions and structures. Currently playing in the Farrer League, TRYC yesterday received its wish by being granted permission to join the Hume League as of next season. The AFL yesterday announced the Farrer League and Riverina Football League would be scrapped in favour of two separate competitions – City and Country – but it gave TRYC its blessing to become a member of the Hume League. Pieper was yesterday elated with the news and said TRYC had been rallying for almost two years to be able to play in the Hume League. "We are more than happy that we are heading out to the Hume League," Pieper said. "This is what we have wanted for a couple of years at least and the Hume League is where we see the future of TRYC Football Club. "The whole township, the club and the players are all very excited about making the move and we think it will be a real plus for TRYC."Pieper said the structure of the Hume League was ideal for TRYC and scoffed at suggestions the club would not be able to meet all of its football and netball commitments next season. "We won't be bringing any negatives to the league," Pieper said. "We want to be able to play all of our football and netball, from juniors right the way up, on the same day and we can do that in the Hume League. "It is definitely a real positive for the club and we will definitely be able to fulfil all our commitments – we are excited about this new opportunity."Pieper said TRYC was looking for a Farrer League swansong this season but admitted the club would already start planning for its transition to the Hume League. "Our main focus is finishing off on a high note in the Farrer League," Pieper said. "But the timing of the decision has been great because now we have the opportunity to prepare for next year and make sure we hit the ground running in the Hume League."– Travis Cohalan
