RIVERINA Football League heavyweight Wagga Tigers will recognise the club's proud heritage with a special celebration on Saturday night. Some of the club's great administrators and coaches will come together for "A Night With The Presidents" at the Robert Hughes clubrooms. With a general bye this weekend in the RFL, Tigers have chosen to use the occasion to honour the club's former presidents.Twelve former Tigers presidents will be back in Wagga for the black tie cocktail party, which will see some of the club's greats back in the one room for the first time.Current Tigers president Scott Oehm said the idea was to honour some of the club's great people."Footy clubs in general honour players when they reach 200, 300 games but rarely do they recognise the people that sit back and do the work behind the scenes," Oehm said."So we thought it would be nice to honour the old guys."The club is heading into a new direction, it's a new generation with a lot of new people so we thought this would be a chance to thank the people for their work and let them know that we will keep the tradition going into the future."Former treasurers, secretaries and coaches have been invited to attend the night, with about 200 people expected to attend the event.Former president John Bance said everyone was looking forward to the special occasion."It should be a great night," Bance said."It will be good to catch up with everyone."Another former president, Doug Priest, said it was a wonderful idea."It's great that the current committee has decided to put this on and recognise the past presidents," Priest said."It's good for some of the presidents that never played the game that have done a tremendous amount of work. To see them recognised is tremendous."The night will also feature two major auctions thanks to club sponsors QBE, Rex Airlines and Mazda Australia. The first will be two tickets to the AFL game between Sydney and Hawthorn, including tickets to the chairman's luncheon. The second item is an AFL grand final getaway weekend, including airfares, two night's five-star accommodation, tickets to the grand final and the North Melbourne grand final breakfast.
