Demons coach Shane Lenon yesterday revealed the all-conquering Farrer League champions from 2008-10 had secured the signature of highly-rated midfielder Chris Gordon.
Gordon was being strongly pursued by rival RFL club Turvey Park but the indigenous talent put pen to paper with CAK after training on Thursday night.
The signing of Gordon comes on top of the arrival of promising Kapooka recruits Scott Williams and Todd Hayes, who also agreed to join the club.
Williams has experience in several interstate competitions and was chased by several RFL and Farrer League clubs before honouring Kapooka’s affiliation with CAK.
Lenon said Gordon particularly will be a huge addition to the Demons’ midfield.
“He’s been training the house down for a while now,” Lenon said yesterday.
“He’s another midfielder for us and played under Chris Johnson last year so he would have learnt a bit.
“He’s highly skilled and very good around the footy.
“He’s obviously going to be a good pick-up for us and we’re rapt to have him on board. He’s going to help the club improve and that’s what it’s all about.”
Gordon spent last season with Avondale Heights in the Essendon and District Football League under former Brisbane Lions premiership player Chris Johnson.
He represented Black Diamond League as a 16-year-old in 2006 and is captain of the NSW indigenous state team.
The Demons have also welcomed through 10 players, and also five netballers, from Kapooka with Williams and Hayes the standouts.
Williams is a talented midfielder-forward while Hayes is also expected to slot into the first grade team.
Lenon said the Kapooka affiliation continues to be important to the club.
“Scott and Todd are both PTIs (Physical Training Instructor) so they will have a similar role to Bones (James Debono) and take some training out there,” Lenon said.
“We’re pretty lucky through the army. We’ve picked up 10 players, five netballers and it gives us somewhere different to train through the year.”
Along with the three latest signings, CAK is also hopeful of regaining the services of premiership player Chad Hamblin, who is considering a move back to the area.
The addition of Gordon, Williams, potentially Hamblin and recent Queensland recruit Curtis Allen adds plenty of power to the Demons’ on-ball brigade that already boasts Chris Gow, Brad Aiken and Ned Mortimer.
CAK will have a trial against Deniliquin in Deniliquin on March 31 with a camp the weekend before at Uranquinty.
Meantime, former Demons star Jarrah Maksymow appears unlikely to line-up for Culcairn this year after recently moving to Broken Hill.
