BUDDING Wagga cyclist Jeremy Scott has boosted his chances of selection in the NSW team with an impressive performance overseas.Scott returned home to Wagga on Sunday night after starring in New Caledonia against some the world's best cyclists in his age division.Scott was awarded the under 17 general classification award at the New Caledonia four-day track meet where he finished no lower than second place in all the events he contested.Up against the best young riders from France, Switzerland, Japan, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Australia, Scott was a shining light of the six-person Cycling NSW team.Scott's father Greg said it was a great reward for his son."He's certainly been putting in the work," Greg Scott said yesterday."He was hoping to do well, I don't think he was aiming for that, it's just turned out that way."He was going for the experience of racing."Scott's performance will certainly not harm his chances of being selected in the NSW team for the national championships early next year.He will compete at two critical lead-up events in December, the state scratch race championships and the state omnium championships.Scott was part of the NSW team last season and will again be in contention for selection."He'll be in their radar," Greg Scott said."But it will come down to these next couple of meets and performing on the day."It's all based on performance."Southern Sports Academy head cycling coach Iain Hume is proud of Scott's efforts overseas."Jeremy's come an awful long way from a B grade under 15 rider to where he is now," Hume said.
