The two women have been engaged for six years and moved from Sydney to Coolamon a year ago with their children, Gemma, 6, and Jordae, 5, to provide the best environment for their family.

"I've always been one who believes in justness and fairness," Michele said about why they marched.

"I don't think it's the government's place to legislate love when it is about two adults who are of consenting age - it's a human rights issue."

Lisa said the couple decided to participate in the march united, as a family, because they had always taught their children to be tolerant and accept people for who they are, not their age, race or sexual preference.

"I know we can have ceremonies here but they aren't legally recognised, it's second class, it's not the same as marriage," she said.

"We want our children to grow up seeing that the meaning of marriage is a relationship between two people who love each other."

Lisa said that after living in Sydney all her life she was scared about moving away to a regional area which might be more conservative.

She said there had been no issues since moving to Wagga and the community had been very welcoming of her and her family.

"My primary concern was for the kids; I was scared they would be ostracised," she said.

"They love it here though, they have an active, safe lifestyle with lots of fresh air and opportunity."
