Kristy Davies went through the struggles of realising she was gay when she was young and only felt comfortable telling people when she turned 18.
She is now becoming the voice for Wagga's gay community and is organising a rally in Wagga for gay marriage.
The issue has sparked much controversy around the world since it was legalised in some American states.
Miss Davies said there are plenty of gay people in Wagga and it is time they spoke up about the topic.
"It's not about forcing homosexuality on others, it's about equality," she said.
"We are victimised for being who we are."
Miss Davies disputes claims that gay weddings will ruin the institution of marriage and blames the country's high divorce rate for the demise of marriage.
"There are other problems in the world and they are organising a busload of people to rally against something that I don't think is an issue," she said.
Miss Davies would like to have children one day and wants the comfort of knowing that she can marry her partner if she desired.
A rally will be held tomorrow at Bolton Park from 6pm for those who support gay marriage.
The rally will be in support of the issue and is expected to be similar to the one held in Sydney on August 13.
