Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell announced on Friday that students who sat their HSC last year will receive their results earlier than planned on January 20, rather than January 24 as initially scheduled.
"This is a great outcome for our students, who we know are keen to receive their results and finalise their plans for the year, whether that be heading to university, training or straight into the workforce," Ms Mitchell said.
"I know markers, supervisors, exam and marking staff have worked tirelessly to deliver these final results, not only on time, but earlier than forecast, and I am so pleased we can share this news with students."
One of Wagga High School's 2021 captains, Lily Stein, said it will be a "relief" for students to finally have their results after such a tough year.
"I think it has brought a lot of stress for some students but also for some it is a relief, as we have waited so long, and after such a hard year impacted by COVID we can't wait to see how we went," she said.
The early release of results won't impact Ms Stein's plans for the year, as she has already secured early offers to university.
Kildare Catholic College graduate Matt Anderson has also secured an early offer for university, and said most of his peers also shifted their focus from the HSC results themselves.
"[Our ATAR] wasn't going to be available, so we focused a lot of our time into early entry," he said.
"By the time we get our ATARs we're all doing full time jobs and uni."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Anderson said he's interested to finally see his results, given how much the pandemic impacted their exam timetable - which was constantly pushed back.
"Because the assessments got pushed back, the exams were constantly out of reach and we were studying for way longer than what would be normal," he said.
"I was less motivated and I was drained.
"Doing that first English exam there was such a big sigh of relief [because] the exams weren't distant anymore, we'd finally reached it."
Ms Stein and Mr Anderson are both taking a gap year to work full-time before heading off to university in 2023, studying health science and journalism respectively.
HSC results will be delivered by SMS and email from 6am on January 20, with ATARs also released from 9am the same day.
