"Police canvassed the area and found multiple aerosol cans located near the perimeter of the fire," a Riverina Police District spokesperson said.
"The fire will be subject to further investigation."
Fire and Rescue Riverina Zone Commander Superintendent Stewart Alexander said three fire trucks, two from Turvey Park stations and one from Wagga, spent about 45 minutes at the scene of the grass fire.
"It's important that people call Triple 0 to report and fires and given that it's going to be pretty hot this weekend, it's critically important that people calla emergency services as soon as possible," he said.
The incident has been referred to the NSW Police's Strike Force Tronto, which investigates potential arson cases during bushfire danger periods.
