Wagga locals are already making the most of the cities swimming spots, including Remi and Eden Dixon who went for a morning swim with their family at Lake Albert on a sunny Christmas Eve.
But, the pair weren't without supervision and their life jackets.
In a public statement last week Wagga City Council in collaboration with Royal Life Saving NSW urged parents and carers to ensure the supervision of children near bodies of water and to teach children about water safety prior this holiday season.
The VRA Wagga Rescue Squad also put a message to the community to take care when near our local water ways.
When it comes to swimming spots like Wagga Beach, which is still at a higher-than-normal water level after having recently been flooded, residents are being urged to be mindful of water conditions, including temperature and heights.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Rock NSW State Emergency Service (SES) southern zone incident controller Ben Pickup said it would be wise for residents to monitor the conditions of waterways over the holiday period if they are planning on going swimming in, or camping near water.
"With the wetter-than-average season we have forecast with the La Nina event, there's a chance of increased rainfall and a high likelihood of seeing further flooding, we just encourage you that you monitor the conditions and follow the advice of authorities," Mr Pickup said.
