Grintell this week signed with the Giants' VFL team for next season.

It comes on the back of Grintell spending three months on the road with the AFL club this season as a top-up VFL player in their COVID hub.

Grintell missed out on selection in last month's AFL Draft but is going to continue to push his case with the Giants next year.

Grintell attracted interest from state leagues across the country but the opportunity to put his case forward at an AFL club was too good to turn down.

"I'm looking forward to it. I'm keen as," Grintell said.

"It was probably just that it was an AFL club, really. I was going to go to the SANFL but I thought I might try this for a year and see how it goes. If it doesn't work then I can always try something else.

"I wasn't really going to say no to an AFL club."

In perhaps an even bigger move, Grintell will move in with Giants coach Leon Cameron and his family.

Cameron offered and Grintell did not hesitate.

"He's offered so I said why not," Grintell explained.

"That will be good. He might be able to see some of the little things I do hopefully. Most of them will probably be bad, who knows!"

Under the new AFL rules, VFL players can only train with the AFL group for two days a week. It means Grintell will work three days a week in Sydney.

"I'm working three days a week and training two days a week. I'll do the Monday and Friday main sessions and probably train on my own, or with other boys, or find a little club to train with, for the other days," he said.

"I can't wait."

Grintell will make the move to Sydney early next month.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout season this year, impressing with his speed, endurance, footy smarts and goal sense as predominantly a small forward, who can also go through the midfield.

Grintell kicked six goals in his four NAB League appearances for the Giants, then made four appearances at VFL level.

He finished the year with a lively performance for the Allies against South Australia.

Grintell said he certainly has not given up on his dream of one day playing AFL football.

"Bloody oath. My path is probably a bit different to others as well," he said.

"Being away with (the Giants this year) gave me a bit more of a chance as well. Anything could happen really."

Grintell is the son of accomplished Narrandera footballer Jamie Grintell and his wife Katie.
