Ayers was a late addition for the Cherrypickers in the COVID shortened 2020 season before returning to the Canberra Raiders Cup and having a big impact.
Ayers went on to claim the Les McIntyre Medal, following in the footsteps of Young halfback Mitch Cornish before he added a Weissel Medal to his resume this year.
Young captain-coach Nick Cornish believes he'll have a much big impact for the Cherrypickers with a shift into the second row after previously playing through the middle with the club.
"It's exciting," Cornish said.
"Whenever I've played against he's definitely more dangerous on the edge as he's very smart, very good defensively, he's a good talker and is very hard to tackle."
He's also looking forward to seeing Ayers link with his oldest brother on their left edge.
"This time he'll get a full pre-season in with his and Mitchell is a very good half and he likes to work in well with his back rowers and he'll get an early connection," Cornish said.
"Hopefully it adds a lot of strike to that edge."

The return of Ayers only adds to the depth at Young this season.
There has been little turnover from the side who were third on the ladder and set for their best attack on the Group Nine title in 30 years before COVID stopped the season.
Their only loss at this stage will be veteran centre Ben McAlpine with Cornish taking over the coaching role from Nick Hall.
Cornish believes it leaves the club in good stead heading into Christmas.
"The backs are looking very strong and our forwards are looking good," he said.
"Everyone else is pretty much the same as last year apart from Ben McAlpine."
Cornish also expects to get a lot more out of Boro Navori in 2022 after he made his return from a knee injury sustained on Riverina duties last season.
"He's looking nearly 100 per cent in pre-season so hopefully he can find his way back into the side as well as the boys were telling me he was pretty good," he said.
