HOMES have had their roofs "ripped off" due to strong winds on Saturday night, with emergency responders called to numerous incidents of major damage across the Riverina.

Southern Zone SES units have received 99 calls for assistance, completing 71 jobs so far, after lightning and strong winds caused severe damage to severe parts of the region.
Saturday night's weather event swept from Hillston across to Cootamundra, leaving 14,000 people within the Riverina, Southern Tablelands and Far West without power.
Five homes in Mangoplah have suffered extensive wind damage, with roofs blown off entirely in some cases.
Southern Zone Incident Controller Benjamin Pickup took to the Murrumbidgee NSW SES Facebook page during the early hours of this morning to provide the community with an update.
"There's been trees down, and we've had a number of houses that have had their whole roofs ripped off due to the winds and general roof damage from the hail and some of the heavy rain," he said.
Essential Energy has released a statement confirming 9000 of its customers woke up still without power on Sunday morning and that it had deployed additional crews to repair its electricity network.
"With many power poles destroyed and trees falling on powerlines, Essential Energy crews from across the state were dispatched immediately to repair the electricity network," the company said.
"Crews worked throughout the night in challenging conditions to restore power to approximately 5000 customers."
Southern Zone SES units have responded to 1,450 calls for assistance since November 9.
