MTC presented a cheque for $5057.47 on Friday after the success of the inaugural Good Talk race day in October.

The Wagga charity group made a total of $10,750 from the event, held at the MTC, as they continue to raise awareness around mental health and funds for bipolar research.

MTC sales, events and marketing manager Cass Writer said the club was thrilled to play its part for such an important cause.

"We're so excited to be able to donate to this charity," Writer said.

"They came to us a while ago, Carmel (Walgers) did, about wanting to do something. We came up with this idea and the guys from the Good Talk committee made it what it was.

"They were able to get so many great sponsors on board and sold so many tickets, which is why we've been able to donate so much money. We're thrilled."

Just under 300 people turned out to the Good Talk event, giving MTC a stronger crowd than usual for the meeting run annually on the eve of Melbourne Cup week.

The success prompted MTC and Good Talk to lock the event in for the same time next year.

"The last Friday in October seemed to work nicely," Writer said.

Good Talk committee member Zach Walgers thanked the community for again getting behind one of the organisation's fundraisers.

"It's unreal. The generosity from the community has been amazing for all our events and this amount of money from the races is awesome," Walgers said.

"We had just shy of 300 people and that attendance was just a good show of everyone's generosity and willingness to come socialise and get around each other after the COVID year."

Walgers said after holding golf days, a fun run and other events in the past, they believe the race day could be a winner going forward.

"Definitely, it was such a hit," he said.

"Everyone seems pretty keen and has showed their interest again and are willing to come.

"I reckon now it's penciled in for next year, we'll get a few more and raise some more money again."

Good Talk was created in the memory of Graeme 'Reidy' Reid, who lost his life to suicide just over five years ago.
