Sox was born and raised in Lake Albert by Mr Mitchell's father Brian Mitchell, and she was well-known amongst the local school kids for being the dog at the "bus stop".

When Mr Mitchell's father passed, he took over ownership and has since cared for Sox for more than 12-years.

Mr Mitchell said he is dedicated to caring for her.

"I've been nursing her myself, I even gave up work for her," he said.

Last month Sox suffered from a fit caused by a tumour which left her blind in both eyes, and Mr Mitchell had been prepared to part-ways, but as fate would have it, she "bounced back."

Now, Mr Mitchell cares for Sox full-time, and every he goes she goes with him.

"I have to hand feed her," he said.

"I take her everywhere now, she's my dedication.

"I was able to leave her by herself when she had her eyesight, but not now.

"She is amazing, absolutely amazing, she's quite active."

Mr Mitchell said Sox is the most loving dog.

"She's always up for cuddles," he said.

As Sox ages, Mr Mitchell has the hopes of making sure her last years don't go unnoticed.

"She was my father's dog, he's deceased, so I've had her for 12 years now," he said.

"At her age, I think she deserves a bit of recognition.

"She's in her golden years now- she has been for a while, but I think she deserves a legacy."

But, Mr Mitchell is looking to the positives and even has plans to attempt claiming a Guinness world record for Sox being the oldest dog if she can surpass the current record which he said is 29-years.
