A knee issue flared up for the paceman two balls into his Wagga Sloggers warm up on Sunday.
It means he will miss the clash against Wagga RSL at Wagga Cricket Ground on Saturday but he hopes the side can stand up in his absence to deliver their first win of the season.
"I've just strained some ligaments in my knee but it's not too bad and hopefully I'll just miss this weekend and be back for the T20s," Garness said.
Batting is the area Garness would like to see improve up against a Bulldogs line up that bowled Wagga City out for 80 last week.
"Michael Cattell and Nathan Corby will lead the ship and it's just up to the other boys to take some wickets and hopefully someone scores some runs," he said.
"From the three games we've played I feel we've bowled and fielded really well but it's more a case of another 20 or 30 runs we could be 3-0 instead of 0-3.
"The top six just have to take some responsibility and really dig in."
Garness isn't the only injury-enforced change with Justin Ward (ankle) and Lachy Davis (hamstring) also sidelined while Wagga RSL are unchanged.
