The Young reinsman won his first race at Menangle, taking out the Young Drivers Invitation as part of the Inter Dominion program.
Micallef has driven 71 winners this season, more than his first four seasons combined.
He was pleased to win on one of Australasia's biggest nights of racing.
"It's always a good buzz when you have the big crowd around so hopefully it is the first of many," Micallef said.
"You've got Cam (Hart), Jack (Callaghan) and all those drivers who are there on a weekly basis but other than me and Isobel Ross we were the only ones who weren't from the metropolitan area.
Micallef drove Summit Special to victory for David Thorn.

WHILE most of the focus was on the MIA Breeders Plate, Euroley trainer Graham Heath quietly brought up his first winner as a trainer in over three decades.
Heath has tasted plenty of success as an owner, but was able to produce Hesastar on his debut to score a big breakthrough.
The 67-year-old has been more than happy to let others do the training but when John Scott was suspended decided to give Hesastar a chance himself.
"My trainer got a holiday so the horse came home to me and I kept going with him," Heath said.
"We thought he would go close but I think the other one would have beaten us if he didn't gallop."
