Their 'treasure hunt'-like competition will gift one participant with a hamper ahead of Christmas for simply window-shopping at all participating locations and correctly identifying the golden idol on display at each.

Rebekah Kirby from The Huntress said the initiative is more about encouraging locals to engage with the niche and unique businesses the street has to offer than it is about sales.

"It's aimed to make people walk Fitzmaurice Street basically, to see where stores are and to find all the businesses that are down here," she said.

The Huntress is the only dedicated bohemian store specialising in crystals as well as homewares, recycled furniture, clothing and jewellery in Wagga.

Ms Kirby explains that many of those visiting her store for the first time were unaware of its existence, and she explained that this may be the case for a lot of the eclectic businesses neighbouring her.

"No one sort of knows that these businesses exist in Wagga," she said.

"It's a great little community down here with really fabulous businesses, but it's just about people finding them."

Competition cards are available from all 12 participating businesses, with the initiative wrapping up on Sunday.
