Jon Nicoll is set to play his final first grade match when Wagga City host South Wagga at McPherson Oval.
The seven-time Brian Lawrence Medal winner devotes hours of time into preparing himself for play but doesn't feel he has the commitment to maintain his own lofty standards.
As such the star all-rounder is happy to walk away from the game.
"The standards I've set for myself for a number of years now have got a point where commitment gets a bit harder," Nicoll said.
"I've got a young family and it's something I've been thinking about for a while.
"I think you need to be fully committed every week in, week out and I can't provide those commitments to the playing group."

Nicoll retires as Wagga City's leading runscorer, their leading wicket taker and has the most first grade hundreds.
He is also one of three players to reach 100 matches for the club.
The 34-year-old hasn't ruled out helping the club out in lower grades, but doesn't see himself making a return to first grade.
"I'll still be around the club to a degree and over the holiday period if they are short over the grades I will be able to help out but for the interim my first grade career will come to an end," Nicoll said.
"How I approach things is a bigger commitment than one day a week for first grade and we have a heap of young blokes in the side and around the club and if I'm not going to be fully committed I think they deserve an opportunity."
To go along with his seven best and fairest awards in Wagga over the past eight seasons, including the last three straight, Nicoll won two in Canberra before returning home.
He also represented Australia Country and over a career full of achievements it is one that stands out.
"Anytime you win a premiership is the ultimate and I was fortunate enough to win premierships in Canberra and in Wagga but to represent Australia Country - and I've got that shirt framed - was pretty special," Nicoll said.
