After five straight wins over their closest rivals, the Sloggers struggled with the bat in both their Regional Bash matches at Lavington Sportsground on Sunday.

The Bullets made light work of the 104 set by the Sloggers, surpassing the total in the 13^th over with nine wickets in hand.

Hamish Starr made 30 but he was the only Wagga batsman to reach 11 as Temora product Dave Tassell ripped through.

Tassell finished with 5-22 off his four overs to end any chance of the Sloggers progressing to the SCG.

Captain Josh Thompson rued not being able to get a big score on the board.

"Our batting was a bit of a problem but in the end we've only played three games of cricket and had a three-week break in between them," Thompson said.

"Everyone who participated still put their best foot forward and did as well as they could, but I think it was just a lack of match fitness that didn't get us there but it was really good to get a win in that last game."

Things weren't made any easier with strike bowler Dave Garness going down in the warm for the Bullets clash while Ethan Bartlett picked up a groin complaint.

However the Sloggers responded to finish the competition on a positive note.

Despite not posting a big score against Murrumbidgee Rangers, their 9-115 was enough after some important bowling at the death.

After the Albury based Matt Tom, who answered a late call up for the second match, removed Haydn Pascoe (31) Starr then produced a double wicket maiden to really curtail the Rangers.

First he bowled Luke Docherty (30) and removing opener Shayan Khan (0), who returned to the crease after retiring hurt the following ball.

It ended any chance of a Rangers victory with the Sloggers holding on to win by eight runs.

Thompson was thrilled with Starr's impact after taking six wickets for Kooringal Colts on Saturday.

"I definitely thought we didn't score enough runs to be confident but I think the bowling team put a early good effort in early," Thompson said.

"Hamish and Darcy Irvine bowled exceptionally well early, when it was time for them to launch Pez (Sam Perry) and Jake Scott kept them to a pretty sensible run rate and it just got too big for them in the end.

"Ham's last over was fantastic and put a line through the Murrumbidgee boys.

"It was good to keep them under our total."

Despite coming up short, Thompson believes the experience will be a positive one.

Especially with plenty of young talent in the squad.

Once again it is the ACT Aces who will progress to the SCG after they were able to defend their smallest total of the competition against Border Bullets to progress to the semi-finals.
