Lauren Forsyth, a teacher of 15 years, seven of which she has taught at Lutheran School Wagga, was stunned, to say the least, upon receiving the award.
"I knew I was nominated, but it was a shock to learn that I had actually won," she said.
Given COVID-19, the award presentation happened online.
"It was a bit of a surprise but it's really special to have been recognised as a school, not only just me as an individual," she said.
Ms Forsyth refuses to take credit for the award in its entirety and instead credits the school.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It's lovely for the profession to be recognised- although it's an individual award, I will say, in this profession to do well and be successful you absolutely have to love and be passionate about your job," she said.
"You have to have great relationships and a supportive work environment, which I certainly do, amazing teaching partners and really great relationships and communication with families, and I guess first and foremost, the students you work with.
"You have to prioritise the students and make sure they have a real love of learning and engage them, especially in a year like this year where we've had lots of remote learning and connecting from home.
"It's just really putting in that effort so that we can move onto the next year and the students have everything they need they are loved and cared for, and they have had an exciting year despite the hiccup that COVID has been."
